How to Add a Google+ Page or Profile Badge to Your Website
How to Add a Google+ Page or Profile Badge to Your Website
Adding a Google+ Badge or Icon to your website is easy to do, if you have a Content Management System (CMS) website where you can add code to a text box.WordPress and Weebly are prime examples of where this is an easy process, as long as you have access to your website and know where to look. If you don’t have access to your website, the process should be relatively straight forward for your web designer / developer to add the code for you, especially if you provide the code in a ‘ready to go’ format or a link to the area on Google where they can easily obtain the code.
Although it’s pretty easy to do it helps if you know where to look. Here are a few steps to guide you in the process.
STEP 1
Make sure your Google+ profile is open in your browser (e.g.. Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
STEP 2
This is the direct link, if you’d like to copy and paste it into your browser:
https://developers.google.com/+/web/badge/
You’ll also find a link to this area by going to the ‘For your site’ link on your Google+ business page dashboard.
STEP 3
Choose the Google+ page or profile you’re working on from the ‘Google+ user’ field. Then choose whether you’d like an icon or a badge for your website.
The Google+ Icon is the square G+ logo and you can customize it by adding your business or profile name beneath the icon.
Simply enter your name in the blank ‘Custom Name’ field and you’ll end up with an icon similar to the one appearing in the image on the right.
The Google+Badge offers a few more options:
• portrait or landscape layout
• width options (180 pixels to 450 pixels)
• light or dark theme
• cover photo or no cover photo
• tagline or no tagline
As you make your selections a preview of what your choices produce will appear on the right side of the page.
This allows you to play a bit with the various selections to see what will work best for you. To see what the landscape view looks like, at the time of this writing, you’ll find the Growing Social Biz Google+ page link at the top right of this page.
The icon view is used for my personal profile, also viewable in the top right area of this website.
STEP 4
Once you’ve decided what view you want, simply scroll beneath the preview window for the view you’ve chosen and you’ll find the code there.
Copy all of the code and paste it into the appropriate spot on your website. Or, if you’re not sure where it goes or how to do it, send it on to your webmaster.
As the number one search engine, having a presence on Google+ is important. It’s just as important to take full advantage of this by linking your profile, business and personal, where ever you can and particularly on your website.
